Wills Clinic for Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Deputies
Chelsea Rikard, Lauren Ward, and Danniel McCraw
ABL Attorneys Lauren Ward and Chelsea Rikard, as well as ABL Paralegal, Danniel McCraw, organized and conducted a clinic for Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Deputies. During the Clinic, which was sponsored by the South Carolina Bar’s Young Lawyers Division (YLD), Lauren and Chelsea met with deputies who needed vital estate planning documents. Both attorneys are members of the Wills Clinic Committee with the YLD. The Committe is a program that host clinics across South Carolina during which attorneys draft wills and powers of attorney for first responders pro bono. Danniel helped organize this clinic and provided notary and document assistance so that Lauren and Chelsea could meet with individual deputies at the Sheriff’s Department and draft these documents. Once the documents were drafted, they were immediately signed and completed so the Deputies left the meeting with documents finalized. As a team, they were thrilled to be able to offer these services to these first responders, because their line of work can be extremely dangerous, and the team wanted to be able to show their appreciation for all they do for Spartanburg County.
As attorneys and as a legal team, serving those that serve is a central part of ABL’s mission. Lauren and Chelsea recognize that, as attorneys, they have unique skills that can be put to use to benefit their community. Their law school alma mater and state’s bar have always done a admirable job of instilling the importance in volunteerism and community service. Chelsea and Lauren look forward to continuing to uphold this mission of service.
